Classic Inspiration

The beautiful Lacanche range was the inspiration for the bronze tones in the lighting & plumbing fixtures and cabinet hardware.

We have done multiple renovations over the years with this family. The first renovation was the kitchen, finished in 2020. The kitchen had plenty of storage, but it was limited in counter space and felt very closed off to the living area. By removing the storage wall, we were able to make space for a very large island. We added storage capacity back in with cookbook shelves and hidden cabinets at the island kneespace plus a tall pantry pod. We kept appliances and plumbing in their original locations. The beautiful Lacanche range was the inspiration for the bronze tones in the lighting & plumbing fixtures and cabinet hardware. Swapping some closed upper cabinets for wood shelves by the sink added to the open feeling of this space. The light-filled kitchen now feels like part of the main home and benefits from the views beyond the Living area.

The second renovation, finished in 2022, brought the remaining spaces in the home up to the style level of their lovely kitchen. The Den had a large rustic corner fireplace which dominated the room and made it difficult to furnish. The new fireplace wall created space for the owner’s bookshelves and furnishings. The Den’s materials were selected to blend in with the adjacent kitchen and great room. The lower floor was refreshed with new finishes, plus we replaced the t-bar ceiling with drywall. For the three Bathrooms, we kept the plumbing locations as-is, but changed the fixtures and finishes for a fresh new look. New lighting throughout, including illuminated mirrors, made the spaces much brighter. We also added two new sun tunnels in areas without natural light.

Marc and Lara provided a top notch product and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone considering a minor or extensive renovation. Initially I was provided with a very detailed cost analysis and later, if costs differed, there was always a consultation. What also impressed me was when the tradespeople commented that Marc and Lara are some of the best and most professional people they've ever worked for. Our newly-purchased home was built in '93 and when the realtor arranged a first showing in late 2016, my wife said, "This place has potential value but it needs a serious updating".  At the same time, I kept thinking, "I think this house has good bones".  So we bought it, moved into it and embarked on updating it with the help of Lara and Marc from Ellenwood Homes. All excellent decisions.

Lara is educated and experienced in building and furniture design; Marc in construction and budgeting.  Add to that the varied skills of their main onsite contractors, Corey and Scott.  What a team!  We've never known better and if we were to tackle another job like this we'd choose these folks again...in a flash!

After a winter of renovating and selecting of new furniture - all guided by our team, we are totally thrilled with the outcome.  On top of that, we've gained very good friends in the process...
